On Busy Gaming Month

So, this is not me complaining that there are to many games coming out in the next month or so. In fact I’m going to be happy to have so many things to choose from. I’m just glad I’m at a point in my life & career that I have a little bit of extra money to be able to get to enjoy my hobby in the way that I do.

So short rundown on what’s coming up that I’ve got pre-ordered. I think there are PC versions for all of these but I’m mostly a console person at this point so all of these will be getting played on my PS4.

Street Fighter 5

Street Fighter 5, which comes out next week, is a game I was really on the fence about. I’ve played several iterations of this series ever since Street Fighter 2 on the SNES back when I was a kid. I’ve never been the best at fighting games, but I like playing through the story for each character. I got to play this at Pax South a couple weeks ago and I enjoyed it. It seems that Capcom has taken a lot of player feedback in to consideration this time and it should be a good game. Mainly I like how ranked matches are supposed to match you with people of your own skill level. So in theory that should keep me from having my rear end handed to me by someone who has all the free time in the world to practice with the game. Plus with most of the DLC being free or able to be purchased using currency earned in game is something I like. While there will still be the option to use real money, and in some cases the only way, I’m glad there will at least be some amount of content I can get by earning it. I’m hoping this doesn’t turn in to another Mortal Kombat X though where I enjoyed it for the first coupe of weeks and then put it down.

Hitman

Hitman, which the beta is out this Friday, is a game I’m looking forward to mainly because I played through Absolution and enjoyed it. I didn’t play the earlier titles very much, because by the time I got to them they were pretty dated and I just have a hard time playing games like that. My biggest problem with this game is the way it is releasing in a “episodic” manner. They (the developers) aren’t calling it episodic, but if you release a game a little bit at a time I call that episodic. Now you can only pay for the first “episode” to see if you like it, so you don’t have to pay for the whole thing up front, but I did. I’m sure I will enjoy the game and maybe them spreading it out will work out better than I’m thinking it will. The way they are doing online contracts seems interesting, and could provide extra life to the game. I didn’t mess with that stuff in Absolution, but I’ll try to give it a shot this time around.

Tom Clancy’s: The Division

Another game I am on the fence about. This game reminds me of Destiny a lot, and that could be a good thing or a bad thing. I enjoyed Destiny, but in general I’m not a huge fan of FPS type games. So with The Division being a 3rd person cover shooter I think that will help. It also helps that, from what I understand, the game is totally viable to play alone. I don’t know anyone that is getting it on the PS4 so more than likely I’ll be playing by myself. I’ve heard the non-pvp areas are instanced to your group, so that should mean I’m not running in to other players. I doubt I’d venture in to the pvp areas unless I had a group that I knew wouldn’t stab me in the back. I didn’t order the “Gold” edition that comes with the season pass because I just don’t know if I’ll enjoy the game enough to want to play that content. I probably could have waited to pick this one up, and probably should have, but I went ahead with the pre-order through Amazon because I saved a few bucks on it by being a Prime member. I’m hoping this game proves fun and that I at least enjoy it enough to continue playing it even after getting to whatever is considered the end of the story.

What’s making this challenging is that these are all coming out in a fairly short period of time, and I’m not the best at playing through multiple games at one time. So more than likely something will be sitting on the shelf until I’m finished with another one. Hopefully since these are all fairly “pick up for an hour or so” type games that won’t be a problem.
