Good Morning Folks! I hope you had a most excellent weekend. Mine was a bit odd. I spent a good deal of time out in the garage working on reorganizing things. Right now I am trying to clear the south side so that I can put up shelving there, which will allow me to organize everything that I am moving. Saturday night however I found out that my folks fridge went out, so I was up there after editing podcasts and got the joy of wrestling the fridge out of where it had sunk down into the linoleum over two decades. I’ve reached the point where I am not stronger than my father… probably always was… but it is still just a disappointing realizing how much weaker he has gotten over the last several years. Not that I am exactly Sampson or anything, and a lot of my strength is largely just me putting my weight behind things and pushing like the dickins. We got it moved out however, and Dad can now go shopping for a replacement. Thankfully they have a spare fridge, but it is just less convenient.
In the gaming world… I mostly spent the weekend playing Destiny Rising. My progress is starting to slow down a bit because effectively I am in a state where I largely need master/grandmaster activities to move the needle forward. I did get my third and fourth character to gold so I have pushed Jolder, Estela, Helhest, and Umeko through the hoops required to finish the gold medallion. At this point each one of these that I push up, is mostly just giving me points to spend on a talent tree of buffs on the ascension screen. These are largely things like buffing the exotic artifact and weapon mod drop rates. It is the weapon mods that I need the most right now. They are way trickier than any of the other exotic items because in theory you really want a weapon mod that activates a specific perk on a specific weapon. I put some dead mods into these characters weapons just to push their light up… but at some point I need to replace them with fully functional mods.
In order to participate in Master/GrandMaster level activities you have to get their light up to 64,000 and at this point I have managed to do that with three characters. The thing is you only get to run one GrandMaster activity once per character, so that means I can spend three keys per week getting significant upgrades. This past week Ace and I got together and ran them as a duo, and we should probably keep doing that. I wish we had a third really active player that was compatible with our times…. that also was as progressed as we are currently. Given enough time we probably will have. After doing Grandmaster Gauntlet Blitz… I would love to have a full team of six players, because it would be super fun to queue in together using proper squad tactics. At some point I might have to declare a “Destiny Rising” night, similar to how we have done with Guild Wars 2, but the challenge as always will be finding a night everyone can participate.
In other progression news… I have continued spending every last drop of free currency that I get on Helhest, and have now pulled four copies of her, giving me 3 talent points. At this point it isn’t so much that I am pulling for duplicate copies and thus talent points… and more that I really want to finish getting the parts to her artwork which unlocks a cool Ghost Shell and Sparrow. Helhest will just keep getting more and more powerful, the more points I unlock for her however. All of the points are pretty freaking great to be honest, and as much as like this champion I don’t really mind that I am effectively negatively impacting the next banner, since I won’t have a cache of points saved up to spend on it like I did this time where I had 5 10 pulls banked. I’ve just had better luck pulling for her than any other banner in the past though. I’ve beat pity by a massive amount each time.
In Pack news, we have ranked up the guild for the third time since we started it. This feels pretty freaking good considering we only have a handful of active players. I had hoped more folks would jump on this bandwagon, but I think the whole gacha trappings are a bridge too far for a lot of players. As is evidenced by my free account, you can pretty much get all of the stuff without spending a dime given that account already has every four star, and two of the five stars. Really that is more than enough goodness to play with and be functional participating in even the highest end content in the game. While I spun up that second account to make creating the guild a bit easier, I am kind of glad that I have it because it gives me a good pulse on what playing the game looks like if you do not spend a dime. So far the prognosis is extremely solid for someone coming in as a “zero spender”.
Another thing that I have finished is the Wheel of Fortune event that is going on. The weirdest thing about this… is that I am still collecting spins each day, even though I have nothing to spend them on. I kind of expected there to be some system that allowed me to cash these in for glimmer or something like that, but so far nothing that I can see. I am actually really close to finishing out this event on my second account as well. I am not sure what the math works out to be, but it should be pretty simple for anyone to complete this event just by doing dailies each day. Immediately following this is going to be a rerun of the Morgran’s event, which should in theory guarantee another exotic weapon… and the wording makes me wonder if it is a guaranteed unlock of one that you have not found before. It is specifically referred to as a “Precious Reward” which makes me think it has some custom logic applied to what sort of things it can give you over just a standard Exotic Engram.
Since we now have the firing range in our guild hall, we get to see one of the features which is a hall of heroes time functionality showing the highest scoring champions from the previous cycle. We did not do enough of a few of the things to quality, but Ace dusted me and is the only person showing up with their Helhest and Estela on display. In my wanderer pack guild I was often highlighted, so I have at least gotten to see my own characters in these holos in the past. At some point Ace just leapt past me in progression, mostly because they are way more focused on doing the right thing with their daily stamina as opposed to me… where I sometimes just like spending it on something trivial. I do find it weird why we don’t have anyone showing up for a few of the modes… but it might just be that Calamity Ops for example has a longer than weekly cycle.
To the laundry list of things that I progressed this weekend… add planetary reputation. I now have both the Red Sea Rift and Jiangshi Metro maxed out at 20. This means that instead of rewarding reputation caches I now get these bonus honor chests every 500 reputation. Weirdly it feels like they actually happen more often than those last few ranks of the reputation. Now that I have maxed them both though, there really is no difference between choosing the destinations, because they all give the same rewards. Since I like the Red Sea Rift a bit better, I will probably just keep doing this one each day. I’ve also maxed out world exploration on both areas, so there is nothing really new to find out there as I have found it all. I am really ready for them to add a new area to the game, and hoping it comes in soon with the seasonal reset.
I also finished up the main story quest on my completely free account, and have since pushed it to level 70. The biggest challenge I have with this account is trying to remember what I need to progress when. I am essentially working on getting a few different champions to bronze, but a lot of this is gated by the fact that I have not pushed up to level 80 yet. Right now I am alternating between grinding out artifacts, and doing things that will give me materials needed to upgrade my weapons from 70 to 80 when the time comes. I have Jolder and Ning Fei on this account, and will probably push them up first… and then maybe Wolf so that I have a champion of each element. If I pull Helhest, that might change the calculus a little bit. I also have Rossi-11 on the account and have been playing it quite a bit, but nothing really beats Ning Fei for speed clears.
This continues to be a phenomenal gaming experience. I actually played a little bit of Destiny 2 over the weekend… and I have to say that Destiny Rising just feels better. I am sure I will shift gears soon to the new Path of Exile league, but for the moment I am all in on space magic.

Hey Folks! This week, Grace and Bel start off the show talking about how good Destiny Rising has been now that they have arrived at the endgame. They also talk a bit about Helhest, the new banner character. Grace shares her initial thoughts about He is Coming a roguelike that they have been playing. Bel shares some of the early spoilers for Path of Exile 3.27 Keepers of the Flame, which we are getting a full reveal for on the 23rd and is starting on the 31st. It seems like we are maybe getting a Breach expansion league, with a bunch of quality of life changes. From there, we dive into the topic that got bumped from last week about how there are so many good games… that it makes it really hard to play less-than-excellent games anymore. We also talk about how players are seeing through pointless grinds, and how AA games are back with a vengeance, while AAA games are floundering.
Good Morning Folks. This weekend I decided to focus on trying to get the pack up and going. We almost have enough to form a pack on our own, and quite honestly… I think once we have a pack going it will be easier to recruit folks to play the game. One of the cool things about MuMuPlayer is that they realize that people are probably going to at some point try playing multiple accounts… like is often the case with Gacha games. So there is a built in functionality to spin up new emulator sessions. This is often done for folks who want to keep playing the game, but have long run out of the “stamina” mechanic for that game.
First you have to enable multi-instance support from the emulator when it is running through the “…” menu up at the top. Then once you get into that you can create new instances of android. I named mine after the accounts that I used to create them so I can keep them straight. Unfortunately this means that you are going to have to go through the process of installing Destiny Rising on each instance, which will also mean that when a patch gets applied… you have to manually patch them up as well. I am MOSTLY doing this so that I can get an extra signature to make sure that the pack gets created smoothly. However Ace’s spouse has recently started playing, so I might start running around on this character, because the grouping we did last night… was a bit overpowered with us playing our mains. That is not to say that I won’t likely catch this account up quickly however.
I decided to roll with a Femme character this time around, but I have to say… just like with the Masculine options… there really were none that I necessarily liked. In both cases they were overwhelmingly soft features… which seemed odd for someone who is this big warrior type. Destiny had somewhat shitty character model options too, and I always got around this by playing an Exo. Unfortunately there are no Exo or Awoken options for Destiny Rising. I am hoping at some point we get the option to reroll our character features, because I kind of hate the void and appearance of my main character. I don’t necessarily love this second character… but the voice I chose is a little less “Golly Gee Willikers” about everything. Green hair is always the correct option… I blame Robotech for setting that preference early on.
The second account is a bit lucky… as I did my first few pulls off the permanent banner and already have a Jolder. I also got Ikora early and pulled Xuan Wei, Attal, and the newest 4 star Rossi-11. That is a pretty decent blend of characters to play. I will not be spending a single dime on this second account, and mostly will find it interesting to see if there is any difference between a purely free account and one where I have bought the subscription and battle pass. Of all of the characters to pull though… Jolder is probably my favorite of the baseline mythic characters. It will be interesting to see if I end up unlocking everything on this account. Sadly the Gwynn and Estela banners are long gone, and those are characters I really enjoy on my main account. Helhest is pretty great, but nowhere near as good as either of those characters.
Over on my main account I am a bit stuck. There is a material needed for high level artifact gilding, and it only comes from the Expanse. I have earned my two for this cycle, and am now stuck waiting another 10 days for the expanse to reset so I can earn another two. I could in theory earn more by clearing another difficulty level… but quite frankly I am getting wrecked. I’ve gotten up to wave 19 in the second tier and am just getting shredded by these hyper melee focused mobs that bum rush me… and the objective that I am supposed to keep from taking damage. I am just not skilled enough to get through it with my current light levels on Estella, but I need to push her to a gold medal in order to unlock the next tier of ascension. I could in theory reset progress on Jolder and claw back those resources… but that seems like a bad idea since I love playing Jolder.
In other news, I pulled Riskrunner from the Legendary Campaign… but unfortunately don’t really have the resources to push it up high enough to be useful. This is a solid option for Jolder to use as a primary weapon. Especially if I take any arc damage, Riskrunner used to be brutal in specific content in Destiny 2. I am going to push it up as far as I can just so I can run a few rounds with it to see how good it feels in this game. Unfortunately when it comes to progression… I am not even in a place where I can buy my way out of the problem by spending real world money. Like good on them for not making spending money the answer to the issues… but also it feels kind of bad that I have reached a point in the end game where progression happens every two weeks… rather than weekly.
I’ve also been playing a bit of Destiny 1 on the PlayStation 5, and it is wild to me how much more atmospheric that game feels as compared to Destiny 2… and by reference the style that Destiny Rising adopted. There is just so much going on in scenes and the weather effects feel like they play a much larger role in setting the scene. The lighting is much moodier and I think it really fits the almost horror elements of the Destiny universe. Of course this is from roaming around the Plaguelands, which is the very last area that was added to the game right before the launch of Destiny 2. But this also reminds me of how Destiny 2 in many ways felt like a step backwards… instead of a step forward. Rise of Iron was such a great expansion, and the game felt so much better at that point than the baseline Destiny 2 experience at launch.
Lastly we have a bit of Guild Wars 2 progress. Yesterday afternoon I was running Fractals to complete one of the weeklies and happened upon completing an achievement that gave me one Core Tyria mastery point. This was the last one that I needed to pick up my final Core Tyria mastery the Scholar of Secrets, finishing out the legendary crafting path. The irony is I have a stack of Legendaries thanks to the starter kits, but I guess if I ever want to craft the Heart of Thorns ones I have all of the necessary training. Running random Fractals is still a heck of a lot of fun, and I really look forward to this system going in for Raids and Strikes. Just being able to hop in on a Saturday afternoon and pop into some instant groups and complete that weekly was an extremely nice feeling.
Hopefully yall had a pretty great weekend. I feel like I need to start crafting a Destiny Rising Tools page like I have for other games, because there is not a ton of infrastructure out there for up to date information. If nothing it will give me a spot to jot things down as I learn them. I am extremely sold on that game, and if you ever liked Destiny at any point in the past, I highly suggest giving it a spin. Soon I hope to have a pack to be able to invite folks to.

Good Morning Folks. Last night I officially started the Mad King festivities as we spend our normal few hours of guild nonsense running around the labyrinth. It was a pretty fun time, and eventually we largely followed around a tag. However not before some random idiot seemed to take very hostile offense to us having our own private tag since we outgrew the size of a normal party. I mean we could have dogpiled on the other tag… but technically we were there first, and also after a point it became about the principle of the situation. We were calm and reasonable in map chat, but this other person was actively cursing us out… which does not befit the chill that Guild Wars 2 normally has. I would blame this on the folks filing in from World of Warcraft… but this dude had the God Walking Amongst Mortals title… so they were a special brand of asshole.
That said… it did not really put a serious hamper on our fun, because the biggest component of Guild Wars 2 Thursdays is hanging out on discord and talking about all manner of nonsense. During which Sita the robot… relayed to us some concerning details that deeply concerned me… but then again… that is every week. Joking aside though it is a heck of a lot of fun just to hang out for a bit and do some relatively low effort gaming. This is the part of MMORPGs that I had been missing, and I am glad that I finally got off my ass and tried to wrangle folks to do something together. It doesn’t necessarily happy EVER week, but more often than not we are doing fractals or something similar in Guild Wars 2 every Thursday. If we had more folks… we would try strikes or something that requires slightly more effort. However for now… the Labyrinth was exactly the right amount of nonsense.
Prior to Guild Wars 2 shenanigans I spent a bit trying to catch AFK Journey up on the quest chain. While I don’t talk about it very often, I tend to play this game every night before falling asleep at least enough to do some of the dailies. However I tend to batch the story up and grind it all down in a single go, or in this current case a series of attempts. I think I am nearing the end of this current storyline and I have to say this is one of my favorite so far. I really like the character of Gala and I will kill anyone who threatens to harm her. I’ve started running AFK Journey on the same MuMuPlayer that I use to play Destiny Rising, and it is pretty great for batch doing auto battles to raise various ranks. If you play this game feel free to friend me up and my ID is 39949620.
Yesterday was the release of a new 5 star banner in Destiny Rising, and I had been banking up my pulls for this event. I had phenomenal luck and also spent a little money… and managed to pull 3 copies of her, and 2 copies of the new 4 star which seems WAY harder to get than Umeko was. They also threw Finnala and Ikora on the same banner… which means you are going to get way more copies of them as a result. Sadly neither of them are terribly useful characters other than our PVPVE nonsense. Maybe when we finish with the Ikora madness we should do Nala matches instead. The new champ is pretty cool is both 5 star and 4 star represent the very first bow characters. Thankfully you can pull an Exotic bow, the Trinity Ghoul off the battlepass which greatly improves their functionality. Helhest is ALMOST a great character… but unfortunately the normal drones don’t follow you around. Still it is a solid arc champion that has the ability to make heavy weapon ammo out of thin air… and represents a pretty great support character.
Another cool thing that I think went in with this update, is there are not a ton of outfits available for purchase with ONLY bright dust. This might have been a thing before, but up until this point I thought they required both bright dust and silver. As a result I snapped up outfits for all of the characters that I play regularly. I specifically love this Estela outfit, since green is already one of my favorite colors and green and red is the combination that I tend to build around in Guild Wars 2. My guess is that we were just interpreting the cost of these outfits incorrectly, because I cannot see that so many people spent silver on the green Tan-2 as I have run up against doing events.
I’ve been spending a lot of time in the Chaos Trials of the Nine, because I desperately need an Exotic Artifact for the fourth slot. This is essentially all that is standing between me and getting my Jolder to gold, and unlocking the next batch of ascension points. I’ve refactored all of my exotic artifacts to 2500+, and I think at this point the process is just wasting resources to go any higher. Essentially I am only getting an upgrade when I max out the pity luck on the refactors. If I had ONE more exotic artifact I could push it up to 2500 as well and get across the finish line. The other thing that is actively hurting me is that I am not using an exotic weapon on Jolder, and have not found any Exotic weapon mods that will fit into the submachine gun. All of the rapid fire mods that I can pull from the mod choice engrams… seem to only want to be slotted into the Autorifle.
Even if they did not make the changes to bright dust in this patch… I still feel like they are getting less stingy with alternate outfits in general. I pulled this alternate outfit for Jolder off the normal banner, and then this alternate outfit for Helhest off the new limited banner. I am not the biggest fan of the yellow and grey look for Helhest, but I love the Pink and Purple Jolder and am pretty much using that all the time now. I would love to pull an updated shield to match it at some point, especially given that Jolder right now is my main character that I am playing. It is weird how I originally thought Wolf was so cool, and then as I have played more of the game I have effectively completely abandoned him for greener pastures. I think the thing that could improve Wolf is if they would do the thing that the Mihoyo games do and allow you to change up his element and weapon loadout. If they made it so Wolf could learn how to use any weapons and any element… it would make them way more useful in the long run.
I’ve got a cookout thing going on tonight, so I am realistically not going to get much in the way of gaming. I also have an in person all day event going on at work, so I am going to be exceptionally work out from the combo of both of those events landing on the same day. Tomorrow I need to get up relatively early and run some errands, but after that I am probably going to grind Realm of the Nine until my eyes bleed… or I get an exotic artifact for the fourth slot. Other than that I fully expect to spend some time doing the Labyrinth grind in Guild Wars 2 and maybe try and knock out some of the other seasonal events. I’ve never attempted the jumping puzzle… so I might give that a spin even though I hate jumping puzzles. Sadly I don’t think you can do the teleport to friend nonsense to bypass this one.
