Contract Killing

Blaugust 2015, Day 17

Contract Killing

If this looks like anything other than an utter nightmare to you, you might enjoy PvP

I’m a pretty big fan of WildStar’s contract system. It took me a little while after they were introduced to really understand what they were and how best to engage with them, but now I’m hooked. The system has been a great way for me to fill in some gaps in my gear, make a ton of money, and even get some sweet pets and mounts. Up until this week, though, I’d been leaving out half of the system: PvP contracts.

Contract Killing

These 2 status updates pretty well sum up my experience

All that changed a few days ago, with the combination of my curiosity and a mini guild premade getting thrown together. I had done a bit of PvP in the leveling bracket, with my medic and stalker especially. But I hadn’t touched PvP in months, and had barely ever done any on my spellslinger or at max level. I walked in with no PvP gear and no PvP spec and it turned out about as well as you’d expect that to – I got murdered a lot. It turns out that very lopsided matches are fairly common, since the best geared, most experienced PvPers tend to form premades.

Contract Killing

The real reason I want to PvP

In the end I had a fun enough time to keep going back for a few contracts over the past few days. I build myself a PvP action set and earned enough prestige to buy some gear so I occasionally get a kill or two in before my untimely death. I even had my first winning match, a Halls of the Bloodsworn that we won against all hope with about 15 seconds left on the clock. I think this might become a permanent addition to my daily “stuff to do” rotation, at least until I finish getting those sweet sweet PvP costumes and pets!

THE BEST HAT

It feels like every week I’ve been doing this feature I’ve been playing fewer and fewer games. Here’s my rundown for the week:

Diablo 3: Barely touched this one at all. The end of the season is looming ever closer, and at this point I doubt I will care enough to finish leveling before August 23.

Final Fantasy V: I really want to complete the four job fiesta but I keep running into walls. The clock is ticking on this one too. Hopefully the charitable cause will motivate me to get this one done.

Final Fantasy XIV: Not a lot of new and exciting things happening here this week. Both of the groups I raid with are now at about the same place, having killed Bismark EX and the first 4 parts of Alexander. I’ve still got another week to go before my Wednesday group is back up to full strength, so I feel like I’m in a bit of a holding pattern. I can’t wait to start trying Ravana EX with both groups.

WildStar: I did some more raiding this week, and had a great time! I’ve also started working on PvP contracts just to change things up. Expect a post about that soon! This week I also spent literally all my platinum in order to upgrade my pistols to ilevel 74 ones from the auction house. No regrets, those things are amazing!

Twine: Ok this isn’t so much playing a game as messing around with a game-creation engine. I got an idea in my head for a game and started poking at Twine to see if I could turn it into a reality. I’m not sure anything will ever come of it, but it has been really fun learning and trying to make things work!

AggroChat #70 – Calibrating “Main Gun”

massEffectGarrus

This week we are joined by Ashgar, Belghast, Grace, Tam and Thalen, with Kodra having to deal with some family stuff.  I was not certain how much we would have to talk about, but like always we managed to fill a show full of all sorts of games that we had been playing.  Thalen starts it off talking about his further adventures into the Magic Duels free to play game.  Similarly with the launch of Fallout Shelter for android he has started playing that as well.  Finally he talks about the recent Fantastic Four event in Marvel Heroes and how The Thing is the tankiest of tanks.  Tam spent the day at an Infinity Tournament and talks about just how awesome the Seattle minature gaming scene has been.

Grace talks about her recent swap to spending most of her time in Wildstar and the excitement surrounding the impending free to play drop that is now on the public test server.  Additionally she talks about her recent foray into the PVP system, and how generally cool the community seems to be surrounding it.  While board games are normally the territory of Kodra, Grace mentions the Exploding Kittens card game and how much fun she has had with it since receiving it.  Ashgar has followed in Tam’s footsteps and talks about his experiences playing Sword Art Online Hollow Fragment.  Ash has also started on a brand new playthrough of Mass Effect with the intent of carrying one save game from one all the way through three.  This of course spawns a conversation where we talk about our experiences with the Mass Effect series.

Finally I talk about my recent return to Rift, and my obsessions with Hellgate London.  Additionally we talk about next weeks show, where we plan on talking about the storyline of the Final Fantasy XIV Heavensward expansion.  We have purposefully kept discussion of plot points to a minimum, but we feel it is generally safe enough to start talking about where we think the game is going.  We are announcing this ahead of time for the purpose of letting our listeners and readers join in the fun.  Do you have any interesting theories or are there parts of the story that you didn’t quite grasp?  We are taking in questions via email for this coming show, and we will go over them on the air.  I should be a lot of fun and it is our first real attempt to do something like this.

Screenie Saturday: Happiness

Blaugust 2015, Day 15

Today is Saturday and that means I am lazy about meeting my Blaugust requirement and will post a bunch of screen shots instead of thinking of something useful to say. I’ve been struggling a bit IRL lately so to counter that today’s theme is “things that make Gracie happy.”

Screenie Saturday: Happiness

Happiest day of my life.

First up, the anniversarowsdowers from the one year anniversary event! This particular screenie is from the actual in-game live event. I know some folks were disappointed that it only involved turning everyone into rowsdowers and then attacking a giant rowsdower, but for me, they had me at the word rowsdower.

Screenie Saturday: Happiness

Nice day for a Whitevale Wedding.

The next screenie is from the quest chain in Whitevale. I’m not sure how anyone can look at this adorable lopp wedding and not crack a smile. I’m still hoping for lopp as a playable race one day!

Belle Walker and Omnicore 1

Last but not least we have Belle Walker. I had mixed feelings about this character when she was introduced waaaay back in the tutorial area, but since then I’ve fallen in love. As a bonus, she’s standing here near the entrance to Omnicore 1, which is one of my favorite bits of content in the entire game. I really hope we get more like it sometime soon.

That’s it for today. May your weekend be filled with lots of things that make you happy in-game and IRL!
